The EDI App
The Sysco app for EDI was developed to provide the user with the tools to create data exchange definitions to link with their third-party supplier. The key objectives for EDI imports and exports were to
- Setup Record Type Identifiers. (Setup based on the file created from EDI software.
- Define the network folders for manual and automated imports/exports.
- Create data exchange definitions to map the EDI data to sales order data within Business Central and for sales invoice/credit exports.
All EDI order files are imported into landing tables where the data can be validated, and errors captured. This provides the users with the ability to fix the issues and reprocess to create the sales orders.

All files are moved to a processed folder and can be re-imported again if required. The user can view the sales order created to check that all the relevant information has been entered based on the data exchange.
Each customer can have its own data exchange if different information is sent to capture their requirements.

Data Exchange and Mapping Example

Exporting data from posted sales invoices and credits also uses data exchange definitions to capture the information required in several file formats.
The file format can be those from the list below which again can be customer specific.

Some customers might only export invoices while others expect both so can all be setup using the EDI app and data exchange definitions.
